My computer is making me fat!

Stepped on the scale this morning and saw to my horror 190 lbs.

I am active during the day but find myself seated for hours each evening here behind the monitor and keyboard.

With the kitchen just 12 feet away I need to seriously change what is readily available, starting I fear with less wine.

20 years ago I dropped 40 lbs with a strict regiment of diet and running, now however 5 miles a day is out of the question.

So I suppose long evening walks with the old dog are on tap.

Next stop 170 lbs.

I tend to do a grapes'n'grain diet. Hic.

I finally got the bike out to ride up to the cemetery last week - nobody I know there, just a goal. Turned round half way and came back home again. :o

Works if you don't eat all the pies.

Joking aside, I have one of those Nordictrack Incline trainers. It really is pretty good.

Stick it at a 10 or so degree incline, throw on an episode of Columbo and start walking. 4mph will shift around 900 CPC* . Push the incline up just a bit and it's easy to round up to 1000 per hour. And no running (which makes my knee hurt).

*(Calories Per Columbo).

How does that cake, pie and bacon diet work?

It's pretty good. It takes some dedication, it's true. And there are some costs involved.

Nice couch
Lots of movies (Preferably streaming so as to avoid getting up to change disks).
Internet close at hand, both for entertainment and for ordering in pizza.
Then there is the cost of the cakes, pies and bacon, of course.

That said, results should start to show in just a couple of short weeks.

With dedication, you can be paying to have a wall removed so that you can be lifted out of your living room in no time!

When I went from working in the office, to being home based, I really saw an increase in my weight. I used to walk at lunch and on a morning break, so did around 4 miles. Now I sit at my computer all day, I don't take a morning break, and my lunch break that I take at 3pm each day consists of jumping in the car and going to get my daughter from school. In August last year I was the heaviest I've ever been, including when I was 9 months pregnant  I'm not big, but I felt big for me and was uncomfortable.

I bought a 6 week Groupon for a local bootcamp, thinking in reality I'd go twice and that would be it. But I actually really enjoyed it, met some nice people there and stuck to it. I'm now a member, and have lost 8lbs, 5 inches from my waist, 3 inches from my butt, and an inch from each thigh. I've only got another 8lbs to go to be at my target weight. I haven't changed my diet much, but ate fairly healthy anyway, like you wine is probably my main problem.

Good luck with the weight loss

Home office but doing a brisk 7 mile hike every day.

I see the weight edging off while the fat proportion is reducing and my whole core feels great.
Great for the lungs too.

I'm doing this every day for a month as an initial target but I certainly see more results than going to the gym every day.

Re: My computer is making me fat!

I hurt myself in June and finally had surgery on my shoulder in November....I don't even dare step on the scales because of the reduced/no activity. So, in my usual way I signed up for a couch to half-marathon course. 3 weeks in and feeling loads better, jeans feeling looser but OMG my legs hurt.

That's fab Nicky, well done

I've just joined the gym, get a free personal trainer for a month. I've been running since the beginning of January and, if I'm honest, I've hated it  But had my first training session yesterday and absolutely LOVED it! Never thought I'd be a gym bunny but hopefully this will help me shift the 30lbs I want to lose by May :fingerscrossed:
