I was stuck behind a car at the lights today that had some packing tape holding the rear lights in, some more to hold the boot door closed and a bit more to hold the bumper on.

They must have used quite a few rolls for that little botch job

Probably came from here in Georgia. You can fix ANYTHING with duct tape and/or a hammer, don't y'all know?

How much did you just want to run along the front with a pair of scissors?

I'm not allowed to run with scissors.

Or probably even hold them.

It would have been immensely satisfying though. Ping, ping, ping then a reminder that they should have used gaffer tape instead.

What is amusing is seeing all the cars that don't have AC and now have sticky tape remains around the windows and door frames that held the windows up and closed over winter, but now have the windows dropped open now it's pretty warm out...

Obviously that was just a temporary solution until something longer lasting could be installed. Like this, for example, that I saw last Friday.

Stopped off and got my JCW serviced yesterday... Lots of Minis to poke around with, including this little guy...

Lovely not getting charged at the service desk too, especially at BMW prices.

Oil change
New oil filter
New cabin filter
New air filter
New plugs
Injector rail cleaning
Tire rotation (why?)

... no charge

They take the wheels off anyway to check the brakes, and rotating them ensures even tyre wear, so all should, in theory need to be replaced at the same time.

BTW How often do they change your plugs? Our Accord has a schedule for having the plugs changed every 110,000 miles.

Above was at 30K miles.

I didn't ask for any, Nor was it behaving like it needed them. The conversation went...

"Want some new plugs while we are in there"?

"Are they covered"?

"Yep"

"Sure, why not".

We had the same conversation about bodywork stripes last time I was there.

"Stripes look a bit faded on the hood, want some new ones"?

"Can you do the whole car"?

"Sure, here's a loaner for a few days"

Oh, and rotating tires is stupid. I have no problem with replacing them 2 at a time. Though it is true they had the wheels off, so I guess it makes no difference.

I've never understood the tire rotation thing. It's not generally done in the UK. The guy who does my car said the tires last longer. Great except you end up with a bill for 4 tires rather than for 2. Mind you, this is the same guy that puts a little sticker in my car saying the oil should he changed every 3k. Makes no sense to me at all.

My father always rotated the tires on his car back when he used to service his own car in the 70s and early 80s. As far as I remember, the tyres were rotated on my cars in the UK when I had them serviced, though as my father had always rotated tyres it didn't seem unusual or noteworthy that the service garage would also rotate my car's tyres.

I absolutely would not want to drive a car on a mix of old and new tyres. In fact it is not recommended, and limits which wheels can use which tyres safely, though if your spare is a doughnut I will concede that is less of an issue (my truck has a full size spare). The only time I have bought less than a set of four tyres was two occasions when "nearly new" tyres were punctured and damaged beyond repair.
