Yeah, not this one...
It's just 2.25 acres. I've thought about building on it if it turns out we like the location well enough. The problem is that we wouldn't get squat for the trailer itself if we sold it, so we'd actually have paid a helluva lot of $$ for a 2.25 acre lot.
Our intial intention was to rent for a year or so but that didn't work out due to market related circumstances here in KY. Back in MO it was a total buyer's market in our area. No jobs, plenty of places just like ours for sale, prices were dirt cheap. We got extremely lucky in that the couple who made us the offer were relatively local (from a larger town about 30mi north) had been looking for a place in the country for a while, the Mr. seemed to share many of my interests and I think when he saw all my "stuff" laying around it started his wheels turning. It helped that their daughter and grandkids live a couple miles away. It was also rather fortunate that they had good credit and 20% down sitting in their bank.
The situation down here is directly the opposite, which was to our detriment. My organization coming in is adding an estimated 5000 people to the local population. Dropping that many people into a smallish town, most within a 3-5 month window, had the effect of diving up both the cost of houses for sale and the price of rent, if you could find a vacancy at all. We started looking at rentals, but soon found the few places available were wanting crazy money, a three bed trailer similar to ours, but in horrible condition and set in a trailer park was $700/mo. Not that we could have moved there anyway, they had a no pets policy and I figured with the turmoil I was already putting my kids through, I didn't want to get rid of their dog and cat unless it was that or a box in the park.
The longer we looked the more buying (and buying cheap) seemed to make sense.

I hear you on the rental thing, that happened to us too, we needed to rent here during the 6 month window that Boeing was moving a load of people here from WA State
We couldn't find anything in the sq ft we needed for less that 1500 month! Our house in IL, which is bigger, newer and in a great area only got 1275

Mine must be from the same litter - lived in this house 2 years withut incident, then the week after I replaced all the carpets she ate some cat poop and threw up 14 times while I was out the next day. This summer, I had all the carpets cleaned and within a month she pooped in the hallway while I was at work (never done that before, either). She sure has a good sense of timing.

His street cred has just gone way up
