Another information source for folks to look at (maybe somebody else already posted this..) The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. It's a journal that comes out six times a year, but with the current crisis in Japan they have an expanded news section on their website. For instance this Daily Update.

I noticed the BBC have switched off the live feed, which was a shame.

The district surrounding Tokyo Disneyland may have to reinforce reclaimed land housing 96,000 people after last week’s magnitude-9 earthquake turned the ground to mud, snapping utility pipes and tipping buildings.
The quake triggered ground liquefaction, which causes soil to act like quicksand, across much of the 1,455 hectares (3,600 acres) of reclaimed land in Urayasu city, said Kazuhisa Nakatani, a local government spokesman. Some of Disneyland’s parking lot was also affected, trapping as many as 30 cars. The main park areas didn’t suffer as they sit on 15-meter (49-foot) deep reinforced foundations.

Re: Japan 8.9 Earthquake & Tsunami
Latest estimates of damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami is now estimated to be between $197-$309 billion.

I suspect like Katrina, rebuilding may be slow with the Japanese government trying to decide whether to rebuild some of the destroyed villages with added protection from Tsunamis or to relocate the villages to higher ground.

Re: Japan 8.9 Earthquake & Tsunami
Today CNN showed a current photo of the control room in reactor 3 with the lights on. With all the damage to reactor 3 and its roof and sides blown off, I was very surprised that the control room could look undamaged and very clean.
I wonder if CNN received the news story from a wire service with an accompanying photo that was taken years ago and assumed that the photo was a current photo. The picture is not on the CNN site so I am highly skeptical.

Interesting site, to see the 1008 earthquakes to date that they have had since the big one last month.
