Not from my understanding but then I'm just a dumb yank.
He is called Stephen and wants it to be pronounced the same as Steven as in Hawking, but he is getting it pronounced Stefan as in Edberg. Or maybe I missed his point totally.... Now when we got down to Gaiss, I got totally confused, and my confusion was only compounded further by Chinese first and last names, so now I'm going to sit in a darkened room with a large coffee till the pain stops |

Re: It's Stephen.....not Stefan
I have the opposite problem.....our address includes "Pass" (Peter Andrew Stephen Steven) and when I spell it out, it invariably gets changed to "Path"

But then he said "St. Stephen" is not "St. Steven" so I thought there were three different possible pronunciations and thought he was referring to the way the first "e" was pronounced to differentiate between the "ph" and "f" sounnd.

Re: It's Stephen.....not Stefan
Oh I remember now. The one word with which I had the most difficulty spelling over the phone - FORT - as part of an address.
I would say to people 'Fort like in castle ' and sometimes they still wouldn't get it, so I would have to spell it. |
Re: It's Stephen.....not Stefan
Oh and to cap it all I seem to have acquired a middle initial (J, as in ox ;)).
