I miss my tele shows!

Re: I miss my tele shows!
Which is weird, cause I can watch UK tv on the site without my VPN. I even registered with another account when someone was having trouble accessing UK TV. Asked me for a username, asked me for a password, next page asked me for the city and country I was in so you even get local news.
I created an account tonight (two actually). One via VPN and one without to see what it would do.
With both, I was asked for a username, then a password... And that was it. No city/country questions.
The one with VPN gets bbc, itv, dave etc... The one without VPN gets US channels.

Go to www.filmon.com, set up an account for free, make sure you choose your location as the UK when asked and there you go, all the free to air channels.

Film on used to allow you to register in any country because we did it on a previous computer, but that was a while ago now. Now seems to use geo location, so you can only register as a UK user with a VPN. However, once you have registered you have no need to use the VPN again until it comes to re-do your subscription -- although just occasionally, usually it seems when it updates its player, it puts you back down to US options only, until you re-use the VPN again. At least that's my experience.

I watch many shows and movies on You Tube, I have been watching some of the old Carry On movies lately. We have a Wi-Fi enabled Blu ray player so I watch it through there on my tv.

I never realized about the VPN, so I set one up and hey presto...all the tv from the UK via BBC Iplayer and the ITV and CH4 ones

Thanks for all the responses, I posted that and then headed straight to Vegas to get married. I'm sure it will all become much more useful once someone explains what a VPN is and how I get one?!

Don't worry what a VPN is, not important at all. If you want UK TV programs then all of the above mentioned will help, I use Tunnelbear which tells your computer you are in the UK, it needs to get a few issues sorted but once it connects it loads up BBC Iplayer no problem

Re: I miss my tele shows!
Today, this has done my head in.
All I want to do is maybe download progs to my laptop from the BBC iplayer. & then be able to watch them on our TV .
Hours and nothing !
I have Firefox 26 or summat. The media Hint thing. No go for a download.
I did the wireless LAN adaptor thing for the TV which is a Sansung ( not smart) and it looks good to go........except I can't find out what I do from there at all .

Not sure how true but I read somewhere that BBC iPlayer would be available everywhere next year irrelevant of location.
I'm still in the UK and have registered at filmon, does this mean that when I get to the US it will play fine, or will it recognise the IP and therefore mean I will still need to use a VPN?
I also found this page http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.u...utside_the_uk/ which links to a BBC YouTube page

IPlayer is already available in a host of countries as a subscription service. Unfortunately, the cable companies in the US have put pressure on the BBC to resist releasing the service here. Hopefully, that changes one day.
The other alternative for people that don't want to use VPN's is uktveverywhere.com. You have to pay every month, but a lot of Brits use it and it appears to be a very reliable service.
