“Duke [University] and UNC is the biggest rivalry in college basketball and we were going to be able to host it in our state but now we won’t be able to because of HB2,” says Moore, who believes the decisions have helped “wake people up” to the cost of being a pariah state.

a young aussie friend of mine is working at Disneyworld, she's still "on duty" and everything will close at 5pm tonight, re-opening on Saturday.

The Thomas Cook plane arrived. There is still a Virgin Atlantica and BA arriving around 5:30 and 6:30 local time.

Airport is scheduled to close at 8pm local time.

Domestic airlines have cancelled a good chunk but not all of their flights.

Generally airlines will operate flights as long as they can.

This is apparently only the 4th time since opening that Disneyworld has closed.

It's been cloudy here all day today, but no hint of rain and barely the slightest breeze.

The alt-right are veering towards a conspiracy theory that the hurricane is either exaggerated to make a point about climate change or is in fact engineered to destroy Mar-a-lago.

I've just had rain all day.

Not much wind at all.

The worst part is they postponed LSU vs Fl.

the woman who lives 200 paces from the beach refusing to leave. Her home was looted the last time she had to evacuate so she's staying put with her colt 45 and playing board games. Not sure the colt will be much use against an expected water surge of 10ft or so...

My husband and I looked for hotels on Tuesday beginning at 6:00pm for several inland areas in SC and NC but every site had "there are xx hotels in this area none have availability for the dates entered. Consider changing your travel dates." This was primarily for my husband to evacuate my 74 year old mother; my 76 year father had a stroke on August 30 so he is currently in a nursing home that was evacuated Thursday. My husband and I work for state government. His agency is not involved with shelters so I was hoping my mother could be convinced to leave and he could take her (I call a couple of times per day and she is still not budging).

Unfortunately for me I have a job at one of the two agencies (Dept of Social services and Dept of Health and Human Services) where employees are required to man shelters if called. All my prior state jobs were with agencies that did not participate with that. Basically they drew names out of a hat on Tuesday at 4:45pm for each 12 hour shift through Saturday at 7:00am. Workers who were not chosen for those shifts were told they may be called for shifts Saturday and Sunday. If called and we do not show up for the shift we face a level 3 reprimand and it could go up to termination. In the past for Hugo one worker's car was totally ruined at her shelter duty (car was found several miles down river completely inundated with mud and water). All she asked for was for state government to assist her with the deductible; state came back with "you voluntarily served at the shelter". She came back with "it isn't voluntary when it is specifically listed as a requirement on your yearly evaluation. Basically we are told we will be fired if we don't participate." They still did not pay the deductible. None of us are medical personnel just case processors; I could understand if we were medically qualified to help. So I have to stay put for this one.

Hope everyone stays safe!
