Been out of power here for approx 18 hours - lots of trees and lines are down but other than using candles everyone is ok. It was a blowy night here in NE GA

Glad to hear it, our place got away in similar fashion.
Power restored before we arrived home, still no home internet, 4 dents in the roof and both solar roof lights breached, lost the carport cover and my new 20" chainsaw will be put to good use logging enough firepit oak for at least the next decade. Lost a small, as yet unidentified, tree, a big banana tree/ plant and some bamboo snapped.

Our half acre plot looks like a war zone topped off with a generous covering of Spanish moss but falling limbs managed to miss a garden shed, a 40' x 20' worship/laundry, the carport/attached store, two vehicles, a pergola, the well and the house (excepting the limb that left a few dents).
Some standing water on the north boundary but no biggie.


The worst bit was possibly the drive home, I had expected a bit of stormy weather and the missus reckoned we'd be fine. Apparently the gusty wind bringing trees down and driving rain followed by calm as we drove down I-95 towards Jacksonville was the last hurrah for a Cat 1 hurricane, so much for taking precautions! Doh. 😳

TLDR: We were bloody lucky this past week.

So we're back home now. Took only 5 hours to get back.

The house is OK but there is a lot more debris around than I expected.

Electric and the Internet connection is running again.

Already they're picking up flood damaged vehicles and towing them to salvage shops to have them tarted up and sold to unsuspecting buyers. I wonder how much of this reconstituted junk will end up in California.
I would strongly recommend anyone before buying a used car from now on to have it checked out on Carfax .

It should be made illegal and I don't know why it isn't.

It is illegal, if the buyer is "unsuspecting". In fact it's a felony. Salvage cars may be legally sold only with a salvage title, and of course that clearly indicates that it's salvage. Any kind of fraud to cover that up is as illegal as ilegal can be. Doesn't stop people trying of course.

Amazingly all seemed to lose electricity around us, but we kept it the whole time. Couple of tree limbs down in the garden but no structural damage to the home. This whole process has been a learning curve, as late as Friday I was thinking it was heading up the east coast of Florida, then on Saturday the local weathermen were practically calling armageddon with a possible cat 4 just going up the entire gulf coast.

I think the take away is to be prepared because the last minute panic of finding boards for your windows and worrying about the leak in the roof isn't a whole lot of fun, so be prepared, and don't try and predict the path of a hurricane. Oh and stock up on alcohol and try and count how many times you hear the phrase 'hunker down'.

I suppose if people knowingly buy such a car then they also know that the vehicle has a very limited life span.

I thought salvage titles were only given to cars with over $1500 of damage. That may vary by State.
