Here in Phoenix when referring to North/South roads in general numbered Streets (7th st) are East of the Central Line (central avenue) and numbered avenues (7th ave) are west.
The East/West roads all seemed to be named and can be roads, streets, avenue, drives, or even the occasional lane. Phoenix and the surrounding Cities are one big grid so can be confusing as some roads seem to go on for ever with just the number resetting as you cross from city to city.

Penguinsix's post was much more succint.
Yes I read it and found it perfectly understandable it makes it very easy to undertsand how hard it is to determine the size of a block.

I see that now. For some reason I thought they were all more or less the same.

Right, I should have said no avenue intersects with a numbered street. The east-west numbered streets end, with one exception, at the line of Market St. The grid of streets to the west of that is actually a few degrees off the grid to the east. The western grid is based on the line of the Pacific coast; the eastern on the line of the original shore of the bay. The streets in the western grid are named Irving, Judah, Kirkham, Lawton, Moraga, Noriega etc... see the pattern?

50x100 lots. Very urban. Or urbane, depending.
The houses are of course all unique and mine's the smallest one (easier to clean... er, wait, I need an excuse then).
