No, tonight I've had home made shephards pie and a glass of merlot. But I think I am going to have a second glass of wine.

There are some benefits of HOA's that I can think of ... rules against parking Winnebago's on your driveway, against parking beat-up cars on your lawn, requiring you to keep up your front landscaping, etc. HOAs seem to be a PITA until an utter slob moves in next door ... :) .

A reminder to myself that my own trash is more beautiful to me than someone else's. ;)

We have neighbors down the road who actually live in an old 36ft Holiday Rambler camping trailer. They just added an extra room to the back of it this year. They constructed it from scrap lumber and old shipping pallets with a backdoor that still has a sign that says MEN on it. It has that spraycan foam insulation stuff puffing out of the seams between the plywood and it's heated with a woodstove. Their yard is full of old tv sets, abandoned cars, a backhoe, piles of assorted junk and their previous dwelling, an ancient singlewide that finally became uninhabitable so they shoved it partially down the hill in back of their new(er) camper.

But you know what? All that makes me happy.:D It gives me a warm feeling in my gut because it means I live in an area where you can do whatever the hell you want without fear of pissed off neighbors reporting you for grass an inch too long, peeling paint on your front porch or painting your fence the wrong shade of brown. I can build a shed, I can put up a fence, I can park cars in various states of disrepair wherever I want, I can let my grass grow until it returns to native prairie, I can plant trees and I can cut them down. All with no permits, inspections, fees or anyone's permission required. Around here it's live and let live, and if you don't like it, then don't live here.

There's a real nice new subdivision a few miles away across the highway with covenants and an HOA and everything. I know about it because my best friend bought a place there and got elected HOA President. He's got a real nice place... 2000sqft on 3 acres with a (shared) 9 acre lake right out the back door, full of fish. Of course, all the neighbors hate each other. One guy released a bunch of ducks and geese into the pond and they are shitting on everyone's grass... the same guy owns several adjacent vacant lots and doesn't want to mow them because he "likes watching the wildlife". Other neighbors have a menagerie of garish concrete and plastic lawn animals that everyone else hates because it makes it look like an "over 55" trailer park... My friend used to live on a place like mine, but when they had their first kid he figured he'd better buy a nicer house in a "regular" subdivision so the kid didn't grow up like a hick. He misses his old place every day. I told him, but did he listen? He's actually selling the new place now since he got a job out of town and is moving. If anyone's interested... let me know I'll link to the listing. ;)

I just hope there's always places for both kinds of people.

Don't EVER move to a place with an HOA!!! You really would hate it ABY, I hope you find a place in KY that is just like the one you have now:fingerscrossed:

We have no communal facilities in our neighborhood, no lake or clubhouse, nothing, but we get letters on a monthly basis.

trash receptacles must not be put out for collection before 5pm and must be removed from pavement by 2pm after collection!
Satellite dishes must not be visible from front of home!
Fencing must be approved
must have tree/bush planted in front yard ...ya di ya di ya yah!!

Hate it, and will never do it again!!:frown:

You'd be surprised... A lot of it probably is, but now my Wife has decided she wants to live "closer to town" so I don't have to drive as far for work.:sneaky: And that means I'm begining to see stuff like that crop up in the listings...

This is where city ordnance trumps HOA. You can't have anything done to you if the HOA rules go against city ordnance. Like a very common one, bins can be placed out up to 24 hours before collection.

I live in a subdivision with an HOA and have no complaints with it. I guess we've got a pretty relaxed one. I've never got any funny letters or anything. In fact I never even notice they exist.

We pay about $60 a month for 2 pools, tennis courts, basketball court, football pitch, gym, fishing lake, and a bunch of walking trails. It's pretty kick arse actually, I love it. It's a great place for a young family.
