The NRA disguises itself as an association that protects the rights of gun owners, but is actually more along the lines of promoting gun and ammo manufacturers. Their solution to every problem is more guns, rather than preventing guns from falling into the wrong hands. If there were laws regulating the storage of firearms that were not being used or carried, then far fewer would be stolen. If there were laws that recorded firearms from a licensed point of sale to those recovered from crimes, they could pinpoint rogue sellers and buyers. The NRA are not in favour of anything that stops criminals from getting guns, in fact they really like it that they do. The NRA would be happiest if there were no checks on gun buyers at all, where everyone felt the need to buy a gun because they were afraid of being shot by someone else. Everything the NRA does is to make people more angry and more afraid: of each other, that their guns will be taken from them, of the government attacking them, and so they keep their industry churning at a high rate as the sheep keep eating it up.
I say all this as someone who thinks that guns should not be banned, that it is not only unfeasible but also dangerous to law-abiding citizens due to the horrific state that the country has ended up in due to the lack of restrictions I mentioned above. I never realised how much I disliked the NRA until I wrote all this.

There was a double homicide at the end of our road last week. I am still in shock - such lovely people. LAKE WYLIE: Husband, wife shot dead at Lake Wylie home | Crime | Rock Hill Herald Online
I have only been here for 4 years but my views have been changing so radically lately regarding gun ownership which makes me extremely sad.

I have a question. Does home insurance and rental insurance liability policies charge more if someone has a gun in the home?
Just curious.

Given that we are told it improves safety at home, then presumably insurers should offer premium discounts to gun owners. Larger discounts based on size of armoury?

Do you think if I install some landmines in the driveway and field artillery on the front porch, I could reduce my homeowner's insurance to near zero ... ?

I think to get to near zero you also need deployment of flame throwers and you have to have Apache helicopter gunships on-call but you are certainly moving in the right direction. Don't forget razor wire and high voltage fences, that'll help too.

That was a mother of four shot dead leaving a store on Sunday in Oakland, after a road rage incident.
This really sickens me. I go to Oakland a lot and the idea of a random 'incident' like this...no wonder I want to head to Perthshire. And it's not like anyone can say this hardly ever happens, it's rare, don't worry about it.
And of course the NRA defends the rights of any sicko to have a gun...
Parts of America seem to have so many mental health issues and there doesn't seem to be a means in society to deal with it.

They are actually quite light.
As an aside I felt more exposed in London than I do here. If I lived in Detroit I may have a different view.
