Because it was also a time when they made cars like these:

I would say the good ole days between 1979 and today the span I have been living would be 1998 to 2006 ish.

For the longest time growing up I wanted a Mk3 Capri. I was like 6, I knew bugger all about cars but there was a 2.8i that used to be parked on a road we'd walk along to get into town and I just loved it.

Alas, my dad had company cars, so it was all base trim Escorts (he had a Mk2 Popular Plus, Mk3 1.3 L and a Mk4 1.4 LX before they made him redunant). Nice enough cars, but not the Capri

My dad didn't have a Capri, he had one of these.

Notice that it has a round hole in the center of the front bumper.

I don't recall it ever needing a tow, but I do remember my dad hand cranking it on more than one occasion.

It was but then when there were five of us in it with the back and under our feet filled with holiday stuff driving down to the Isle of Wight it wasn't. However it was still way better than taking the train down. I still remember the excitment when Dad came home with it as they'd not told us we were getting a car.

I remember the excitement when my father traded the Singer Gazelle for one of these, a Chrysler Avenger, this metallic turquoise colour! .... My mother had wanted it in a metallic sandy-orange colour called "sunset".

It was the only new car my father ever bought, and it was totalled three years later when someone skidded out of control and hit him head on.
