It's almost back to 1998 prices which is when I started my pension.

The Dow and S&P are also down, and you and I are young enough that this is just a buying opportunity, either with your regular 401k contributions, or by moving from a cash/treasuries fund into equities. I am waiting for the market to fall a little further before moving.

In any case I have long since given up worrying about things that I have NO control over.

I still think there is room to fall.If you turn on the log and inflation option. Looking at past history of the dow, it's difficult not to call this gambling. I think I will start moving out of stocks about 10 years before retirement. The latest collapse was nothing compared to the early eighties and the thirties.

If you turn off the log option, the latest crash was quite a significant crash.

On a similar note I can't decide what to do about the money I still have in the UK.

The exchange rate is pretty terrible at the moment, but if the UK votes to leave the EU I suspect it'll get far worse and won't recover before we want to buy a house here and have to move it into USD.

I'm tempted to gamble on a remain vote and possible rebound but it could cost me thousands if it goes the wrong way...

The latest polls here put the Leave campaign ahead by 6 points. Hoping for a remain vote might be quite a gamble.

I think the markets may stabilize after a few months when people find it doesn't make much difference to the economy, in or out. That's a gamble too.

But a great selection of curry houses. Pros and cons of immigration.

There was (is? ) a curry house in Newmarket, called The Curry Inn. I ate there once; it was the worst curry I ever ate. ..... The owners were white!

I bought a large traunch of USD last autumn, when the pound was still strong.

The pound hasn't taken too bad a hit since then, and in the event if a remain vote, it will likely only return to $1.40, you won't lose a lot.

But if it goes to brexit, the pound will fall. The optimistic predictions are 10%, the pessimists go as far as 30%. Just buy your sterling back after the explosion. A hell of lot more than you'll make just sitting in the bank, or in equities.

FTSE 100 is up 3% at over 6200 and GBP/USD is 1.46. Looks like it's based on new hopes of a Yes vote on Thursday.
