It'd have to be a mixture of:

• Indian food
• those lovely, oozing, stinky unpasteurised French cheeses with yummy fresh baguette
• Pickled Onion Monster Munch & Quavers
• "proper" Cadburys chocolate, plus all my fave sweets (Drumstick lollies, Wham bars)
• Pizza Express pizzas (American Hot)
• a decent pub roast (or my mum's) with yorkshire pudding

.... all in one sitting

I'm beginning to think I'm a little modest in my ambitions, re food I would like if and when I get a chance to visit the UK. I guess I would be better pushing the boat out and booking two seats for myself and stomach on the way back to the US because I'd forgotten about 'real' cadburys chocolate and not the green-worm infested US imitation (anyone interested in hearing that story better have a strong stomach), the gooey french cheese, and kebabs.

I didnt know the Exning chippie was good value, geeandtee! I will give it a try next time I am home (just down the road in Cambridge but have a friend in Exning).

For me, a half decent ploughmans lunch with real cheese (not the plastic cr*p that passes for cheese here) preferably Stilton from any pub that happens to be en route.

Then real bangers from the village butcher, with mash.

Somewhere along the line there should be a real devonshire tea too but I dont want to go overboard on the first day.

Well, after my recent stint back there, I now know EXACTLY what i shall be doing for my first meal.

Taking OH to the Toby pub carvery lunch. Chefs carve you up a choice of 4 roasts or a mix of all of them on one plate. The biggest and crispiest yorkshire pud ever!! crsipy roast tatties, yum yum yummy horseradish sauce with lashings or thick dark tasty gravy.
For pudding their rhubarb crumble witht he bottomless custard jug (as many refills as you like)
All washed down with a nice beer.

OMG! i can practically taste it all... let me tell you, once you have had that meal its hard work summoning up the energy to make it to the car park!

Their pie and chips are the best....mind you, it's been about 11 years since I was last there!
As for Ploughmans, there was a really ace little pub in Duxford that did perfect ploughmans, complete with little crocks full of home-made piccalilli and pickled onions. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but it was right in the heart of the village. Since you're a Cambridge lass, you may know it.
Bangers...my parents have found an English Tea Room in Tucson that sells sausages (frozen), so we get our fix once every couple of months. They went yesterday, but no sausage so we're getting Danish bacon instead.

Aha, well there appear to be only 3 pubs in Duxford so I shall start with the Wheatsheaf and work my way through them all when I go home in July!!! The Balsham village butchers used to do the best bangers in the world IMHO - havent had any from there in a while though so hope they are keeping up the good work!

Dammit, it was bugging me so much, I had to google Duxford pubs...it was the John Barleycorn that had the ace ploughmans. I'd be interested to know if they still do them, after all it was...erm...27 years ago
