Ever Lived On One?
So, who here has lived on a trailer park? Just out of interest. And I dont mean a big one with a pool and trailers bigger than me mams house. I mean one with toothless rednecks chewing tobacco and pit bulls running about. Like that one in the movie Kalifornia? Just bored and wondering :)

Re: Ever Lived On One?
I looked into buying one of th enicer ones when we were looking at property that had no house on it. There was a definate quality difference between the cheaper ones and the more expensive ones. Even the top notch ones were'nt as good as a regular house though. And the resale sucks. There are a lot of people that live in them where I am though, some in trailer parks in town and some out in the sticks on property. The trailer parks are about what you would expect, or worse.

Re: Ever Lived On One?
I sold my Jeep to a guy who lived in one in a shitty city called Paramount just last night. It had 'toothless rednecks chewing tobacco and pit bulls running about' but not all the inhabitants should be tarred with the same brush. This guy was an honest, hard working and decent guy who was down on his luck. He had worked hard all his life, then was diagnosed with cancer last year. He was unable to work his usual job when the chemotherapy wrecked his body, he now works from 5am to 7pm each day driving tourists to Disney Land from LAX all day - he is still too weak to do much of anything but drive. With no savings he fell on hard times and ended up in a crappy neighborhood. One son is in Iraq (the real purchaser of the car - his dad bought it for him with the money his son wired to him), another moved back to Nebraska, and he is trying to get enough money together to get the 16 years old to college.
He still had his teeth, gave up the tobacco on the doctors orders, and didn't have a dog. Some of his neighbors more than made up for that though . . . |

Re: Ever Lived On One?
It was already keenly priced (it was a 6 litre and only did 14 mpg - in California that is not exactly sought after). It only ran on premium gas, and this morning my local gas station had that at $3.59
I had listed it $1,000 to $2,000 under Kelly Bluebook (depending on whether it was considered excellent or good condition. But I did knock $500 off the price after meeting the guy. I could have got the full asking price, but I suppose I am a sucker for a sob story :o

It wasn't exactly like you see in movies but it was quite low rent. The park right next door was real TV stuff though and everyone on the MIL's park were really snooty towards them, despite being largely unemployed redneck types themselves. It was funny looking back. (Though not so great at the time lol) |

My Wife's Grandmother used to live in a decent one up in WA State. It was for those aged 55 or over and everyone kept everything very nice. It was very well patrolled and any suspicious types had every old lady in the place peeking out of the curtains and calling their neighbors to keep track of the "intruder"! You oldn't walk outside without everybody calling everyone else to tell each other about it...
