If it's a pound cake or something without frosting then I'll eat it with a NAPKIN, otherwise it's fork and plate....and lots of ice cream.

The British way is to serve it on a napkin and eat it with the fingers, like the way a bride and groom would eat it at their wedding.
bless, not sure which wedding you went to or when that was but i've never eaten cake from a napkin at a wedding or anywhere else for that matter....besides which if the cake was chocolate it would be too messy coz i like my chocolate cake zapped in the micro so as to melt the chocolate

While we're at can I just say 3 words?

beans and toast

Beans and toast?!?!?

Beans AND toast?!?!?!

BEANS AND ****ING TOAST?!?!??

Disgusting.

It's not so bad that the British eat that crap .... every country eats some weird shit.... but it's the fact that they're so PROUD of it - like it's real food or something. Not just proud of it but bordering on self entitled petulance when they can't find just the right beans and bread for their "beans and toast" .... GET A GRIP!

BEANS AND TOAST, FFS.

Grow up.

I know what he means (I think) when you go to a UK wedding especially if its a buffet you get a small bit of wedding cake on a napkin in some places.
Or at a party (cheap one!).

I just shove my head in the refrigerator and snuffle around in there until I find some cake.

I should have said 'everyone I know in the UK'. I'd never seen anyone eat from a napkin until I came to live here.

There's a lot of American things I've adapted to since moving here but I'm not budging on using my cutlery/silverware the British way. The American way seems inefficient and slow. I'm a slow eater anyway and swapping the knife and fork during eating is only going to make me even slower.

Plus, it is practical to eat a burger or sandwich with a knife and fork when it is so tall I can't jam it in my mouth.
