Poor thing. Good on you for taking her in.

Lots of cute dogs! How's it going with her pins? Are they helping?

These are our terrible two. This was their reaction when I asked them which one had eaten the pineapple plant, spreading soil all over the cream carpet and the walls.

Basically whenever any suggestions of misbehavior goes on, they either smile sweetly or do sad faces, reminding you of their past life in the pound.

So I have been thinking of getting a dog - this thread might have pushed me into actually doing it this year

It likely would be - that's what started me off thinking about it, went to a craft show and there was a local shelter there showing off some of their dogs

She is making progress and bearing weight on it now. Here are x-rays from when she first presented, and at the beginning of January after she had had pins in for 3 months. She is back at the ER today with her mum to have new radiographs to see how it is progressing. Fingers crossed she can have the pins removed completely soon and start being a puppy.

The difference is pretty amazing. Hopefully she get them out soon. Are you working with a rescue group to help with the costs?

She had two of the six pins removed today. She is on minimal exercise, so we have to keep her heavily sedated and confined to a small room for the next two weeks. Poor thing staggers around when I walk her for her potty time. Such a shame she is missing her puppy time
The next two weeks will tell whether she can have all the pins out or whether we'll need to take her to surgery to plate it instead.

We work with a lot of rescue groups, but this one is on us. There just isn't enough money to give them all what they need. It is understandable a charity would be reluctant to spend ~$8,000 on a stray 'mutt'. We are only out the cost of the materials, meds, and our staff time. If she needs the leg plated then it will be a real cost to us as none of my doctors does that, so we would have to refer her to a specialty center. Local day practices have helped us with their time and expertise already in this and many other cases. Doctors coming in on their days off, donating 'rescue meds' (out of date meds and supplies, but otherwise safe to use). I'm hoping it doesn't end up as a referral and we can continue to help her in-house.

We got our dog as a freebie at three months of age. He is 11 to 12 now.

She is one VERY lucky girl in finding you. She is adorable and well done for saving her.

Two "really innocent looking" dogs with mud on their paws looking at me and saying they have no idea how that big hole in the backyard just like suddenly appeared out of nowhere, must have been that stray cat or gophers, yeah gophers.

The dog is now 19 and 'leaks' on everything regardless. She still manages to perk up whenever lunch is around though - she can run very fast then.

This is my boy, rescued just over a year ago. He's from Georgia - a lot of dogs from the south are brought up to New England to be adopted. He's coped well with the snow considering he's not built for it. I'm seriously thinking about adopting a second dog to keep him company.
