Dog thread!

We just got a new dog a couple of weeks ago. Rescued from the shelter, he is some sort of spaniel mix and an unapologetic snuggle bunny. Our other dog seems to like him too. Only downside is that he is a bit of a chewer but now he has a new rope toy.

For some reason I read that as "squirrel mix"...

He's a sweetheart, congratulations! Glad that he and his new "brother" or "sister" are getting along, that is always a hold-your-breath moment when you introduce a new dog into the family.

Congratulations!

My kids love dogs. Wife has been badgering me to adopt from a rescue, too. We'll probably do it in the next 6 months.

What was it that drew you to this doggy in particular?

We have a friend who works at a shelter and she set us up with their behaviourist. We were then able to try out a few dogs in their yard. Best bit is this shelter does sleepovers (3 night trials). This guy has a similar temperament to our other dog. She likes him.

Very cool. What breed is your other dog?

Also a rescue. Her papers say "shepherd mix" but we have no idea.

Rescue dogs are great! The westie we had in the UK was from a shelter. He was a little timid and introverted for a couple of weeks, but when he came out of his shell, he was a great dog. When it comes time to replace our current dogs, I'll definitely suggest we go to a shelter first.

I always feel that it's a total "je ne sais quoi" that makes one dog, in a room full of adorable little creatures, turn out to be the one for you. Whether you are looking at puppies or adult dogs, there always seems to be an indefinable quality that lets you know who is the dog for you. Or else the dog itself thinks that you are the one for him/her and adopts you, as is often the case!

Mine was a rescue, and he better never forget it.

Re: Dog thread!

We are up to dog number 7 now, sigh. The latest is an Alsatian stray, hit by a car, brought to be euthanized. She has had external fixators for 3 months now as we work to mend her shattered bones. They always start as a 'foster', but my wife knows I'll cave in to keeping them. Living in the boonies on a large ranch helps, but feed time with all the cats dogs and horses is a PITA!
We do own one dog the wife bought, but all the others came from our hospital when we couldn't get them in to a no kill shelter or other rescue group. With so many rescue dogs in need of good homes I'm happy to see so many adopting them.

The latest rescue:
Bless her heart, she has had pins in her legs for months now and has them changed and adjusted every 6 weeks. Never complains.
