Does a tramp stamp or a shag tag = tramp? Not a fan of tats myself but not inclined to label those ladies who partake. Opinions?

Em, I sincerely hope not!! I have tattoo's and I don't class myself as a tramp. I also have female friends who have one or more tattoo's and none of them are tramps either. I don't know where the "tramp stamp" expression came from to be honest and I don't think, just because a female decides to get inked, they should be classed as such......

I am sure I am not alone in thinking that tattoos can add a level of allure to the owner... It comes down to how it's done, and where.
I was on a flight just this week. A lady a few rows down had 2 tattoos on her back, the style and location of which were more like skin markings - like a kind of filigree. The location & styling added a certain something that I found quite attractive.
Having "Chandler 2012" (it's the 100th anniversary of the founding of Chandler in AZ this year) tattooed on the entire back of your bald head, which I saw 2 weeks ago, well to me that said trash.
Mrs HTS & I have discussed getting inked from time to time.
Covering your body in tattoos that are basically gang colours etc - trash. Works of art is a different thing.

I thought that the term "tramp stamp" was referring to the tattoo a woman has on her lower back heading towards her butt?

Not sure why really. Tat's can be pretty tasteful imo and really, so long as the person who has em is happy, why not?

**Disclaimer... Nutek's have been known to be inked.**

I'm definitely NOT a fan of tats and although my first husband and now my youngest daughter have them, I still do like them. But that is just me. After all I like makeup and that is only a temporary tat isn't it.
Don't think less of someone because they have a tat but if they are many and in very publicly visible places, I honestly do shrink back from them in fear as my generation thought tats were only for bad boys and girls.

Perhaps once upon a time it was just a fairly secret place for a tattoo.
Then it became "fashionable" (questionable) to have low cut trousers/jeans and g-strings that were visible when one bent over or down.
Maybe that is how the two got connected? Stamp as in tattoo and tramp as in flashing your crack with low pants?

I have a small tattoo on my lower back, just below where my jeans sit and it has been referred to as a 'tramp stamp' but not by my friends as they know they would not be my friends for much longer. I'd rather have my tattoo on my back rather than on my face or hands. Each to their own I guess. My dad hates it and refuses to acknowledge it's there. God knows what he would do if he found out about my brothers 14 tattoos!

A while back my dermatologist said he wanted to take a picture of a mole I had that was getting removed but I'm sure he wanted a pic of my tattoo.

Ive been pretty careful to keep areas that cant be covered (hands etc) ink-free. Never know when it could work against you.
Anywhere else is fair game though really.
