I had the Audi A4 1.9 TDI and got 55 mpg. Much better than a 5l V8 american monster that gets 15mpg.

We had a Mazda MPV diesel last year in the Uk - it was cracking - pretty good performance for a people carrier/van whatever, and good mileage too. In great condition as well, low mileage, oops - sorry, nearly running into an ad - check out the classifieds - still trying to sell it

Aside from that diese cars are, if I remember correctly, not legal due to emissions standards in California and parts of New England.

yeah, I remmebr when we were just starting to drive, diesel was always cheaper per gallon than petrol - not any more - paying for the advances in technology/refining...

The problem I would have living where I do is having to plug the damm thing into the mains every winter and having to but all those addatives to stop it freezing. .............. During the winter months my truck engine is started by machanics every Sunday evening and left running till Friday night just to stop it freezing up.
