How is the Homesickness now? I'm getting over my first bout of Homesickness just now.
I searched 4 butchers who all claimed to sell on web sites or from reviews but they had no idea what I was talking about when asked in person. One of them suggest I try a 'British' food store a few doors down. That place turned out to be 1/3 indian groceries, 1/3 british canned/frozen food and 1/3 indian take away.

I ate the home sickness into remission!

I love one of the reviews on the link. A lady was happy to find "graham marsalla" (sic)!

can recommend these:

http://www.cousinjackspasties.com

They're not far from me (family moved down from MI..cornish ancestors) so I go over and pick them up...they're huge and tasty (I can only eat 1/2 at a time)

I know there is a place in AZ that sells but won't deliver. Any Pasty heads out there help a cornish bro out?

Thanks
Hi:

You don't say WHERE in CA you are. But in Pasadena there is http://www.yelp.com/biz/brits-fish-a...0British%20Pub

It is a favorite of PCC and CalTech students.

Personally, when visiting brother-in-law in St. Austel I eat pasties and when in Southern California I eat the functional equivalent -- the "burrito."

Apparently I crossed the line with my picture of... gasp... breasts!

Anyway, for those of you Brits who live a sheltered life, you may be amused to know what Pasties are in the US.

...or perhaps you're not as juvenile as I am.

I made it a condition of marriage that my CA wife learn the pastie methodology and that has kept me in good stead!
If you're in NorCal I've not found any pasties retail but safeway will provide you all the ingredients. (Apart from the wife to make 'em...well you never know) ;-)

We just finished putting the two biggest homemade pasties I have ever seen in the oven - 45 minutes to go.

This will be quite a feat as my wife is a great cook but Japanese and knows not what a pasty is while I am a kitchen incompetent.

Let's see what comes out of the oven!!

Thanks to those who suggested cooking pasties. Pretty easy and they tasted awesome. I am in a serious food coma.

Pic attached - not pretty but that's not the point!! :-)

hi, you can't live far from me as that shop (Nina's) is just down the road from me.... just watch the sell by dates in there... they have a tendancy to cover the sell by dates, or remove from the packaging because most of the food is out of date!! If you want more British food, you should try the British Food Shop in Laguna Niguel (just off Crown Valley Parkway). Things in there have a much longer sell by! I have a feeling I might have seen some pasties in there too. Anyway, here is the weblink to the shop... def worth a visit! It's tucked away, on what feels a bit like an Industrial Estate... but it's a gem of a find!

My husband of west country decent had a pasty from the shop englishrose84 mentions above. He was not impressed -but then you cannot beat the real thing.

I hope your home made ones came out well - they look lush

Just to warn you the shop is quite small, but I think you can order stuff in there if they don't have it in stock. It is also half British food and half South African food, so when you are looking for it you will notice the sign for the African Hut! You need to go all the way down Forbes Road, right down to the very end and drive up onto what feels like a pedestrian area, then keep driving to the end of the parade of shops and it is one of the end ones on the left hand side. Happy pasty hunting!!
