Christmas Trees?

Christmas Trees?
So who's gone for a real tree or a fake?
How silly big or small?
Cut it down yourself or local supplier, or just from a regular grocery store?
We don't have room for a big tree, about 4.5' maybe 5'. The kids picked it and it's the saddest looking thing ever but they love it....at least it was only $20. It was right in the middle of some cracking looking trees that were only a couple more bucks, but whatever.
We've been getting them from the local indie hardware store in town, who have these tree folks come in and sell from NH, but the trees are a mix from Nova Scotia and NH.
When we were in Maine, we used to get massive trees. Back in '05 we got a 9 footer for $25 from literally a toothless wonder selling these lovely trees out of the back of his truck on the side of the road, where he got them from his land across town. Bit more pricey these days I guess....but still cheap enough in ME compared to here that you see loads on top of cars heading south :/

Re: Christmas Trees?
Fake. We did a real tree the first year in Houston and between the heat and the aircon, they just don't last.
Mahussive size. And fabulously decorated by an overexcited 5 year old.

Real, always buy at the same place, and the same size of 6 to 7ft, about $30.
I always think we should buy a fake one, but the smell isn't the same and we always recycle our trees anyway.

We've got to go and get ours this afternoon but we'll be getting one from someone at the side of the road instead of going to Lowes etc. Someone mentioned they're $6 a foot and we only need 5 foot, 6 max.
At our old house we had cathedral ceilings so had a 15ft one from the local high school for $30 but this year they're not doing them.

Re: Christmas Trees?
We have a four-foot fake tree because I live in an apartment and a larger tree would be too wide on the bottom. We lift it up onto a small round table covered with a tree skirt and it looks lovely; only thing is we have to scale down the size of the tree ornaments. A plus is that there are no lower branches for the cats to mess with and hide in.
We are thinking of getting rid of even that; I want to make a wall quilt with a tree on it so that when we hang the quilt on the wall, it looks like a five-foot tree. I was going to wire it up with the kind of LEDs you use for sewing, and sew eyes from hook-and-eye sets to hang ornaments from, and pockets for candies and little gifts.

Re: Christmas Trees?
We got a 6ft6in fake from Argos about 20 years ago and it's still going strong although minus 1 small branch. I can't be bothered with the mess the needles on a real one make, but the real ones do smell nice when they are freshly cut. We put the metal/unbreakable ornaments on the lower branches because of the dogs.

Does that mean you put your dogs at the top of the tree.??

Real tree. My black, pagan heart wants the real evergreen fertility symbol.
Besides, it smells good.

One thing though....anyone found real mistletoe? Only found some fake stuff around where we are. Did find some last year but it was seriously expensive so didn't bother.
