exactly, we do NOT know the whole story, so there may be many things the Press do not know either,. Unless the adults had written permission to take the children, then it could well be a problem no matter what the faith, race. religion or anything else.

Pretty sure ESTA and your Passport do not show religion so that is no doubt a red herring.
Presumably they are Pakistani citizens who are no longer eligible for ESTA. The shitty thing, of course, is that people will only find out that their ESTA is invalid when they get to the airport.

The BBC report says he was denied entry to Israel, not arrested.

Just curious, but why should Mr Cameron do anything?

He can't do anything regarding US immigration policy, especially due to the nature of the Visa Waiver Program, but it still was a pretty shitty way for this to unfold. It should have been denied at ESTA, not at the airport.

Passports show names. Muslims have Islamic names. Possibly not an issue, but not because of omission of religion marker.

I wonder how many times in posts on BE I have referenced US officials at UK airports.

There is always more to it...

UK Muslims not allowed on plane - CNN.com
However, a check by CNN of traveling family members on UK Electoral Roll shows an email address associated with 18-year-old Hamza Mahmoud that links to a suspicious Facebook page.

The page appears to belong to a Birmingham resident with a similar name, whose occupation is listed as Supervisor at Taliban and Leader at al-Qaeda.

When asked by reporters about the Facebook link, the family said the email listed on the electoral roll is incorrect, missing some characters, and that the son lives in London, not Birmingham.

Tariq Mahmoud confirmed his son Hamza was part of the trip, and he told CNN the family had no knowledge of the Facebook page until asked about it by a reporter.
Probably a completely different Hamza Mahmoud but DHS doesn't need to prove anything.

I didn't think for one moment the family had been stopped from traveling just because they were Muslims. There had to be more to it, and sure enough, links to this dodgy Facebook page have emerged. The father was on Sky News earlier saying his son's Facebook page had been hacked and they knew nothing about it. Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaah. There was talk on Sky News that the family had also previously been denied access to travel to Israel in the past. Hmmmmmm. I'm not saying this is a family of terrorists, and although there may or may not be a fire, there definitely seems to be some smoke!!

IMO it is most likely that someone lied on their ESTA and it was discovered on scrubbing the passenger manifest. As we know from multiple visa-related questions over the years, lies on ESTA, or prior to that, on the landing card, are not uncommon.

I suppose so, and if this is a case of someone having the same name as a suspicious person, there's no telling at which stage in the process it could have been caught, if at all.

Interestingly though, I actually have the same name as a reasonably high ranking UDA 'commander' but it's never caused an issue this far

It's OK, they're being monitored.

Never heard of Erik Schrody.
Jermaine Jackson is now Muhammad Abdul Aziz. Old name still used for commercial purposes.
You will have to provide me with your full list for further commentary.
