Default Buying A Car

I was hoping that someone might give me some advise on buying a car.
When we arrive in America my wife and I might not have a job and even though we have a co-signer I have been advised that we can't get finance until we are employed. But to get employment we need a car to get around- catch 22. However, we are applying for employment before we go.
I didn't really want to spend a chunk of our savings on a car (as we might need for other purposes), but feel that we have little choice.

Has anyone any alternative suggestions?

Thanks

If someone is co-signing you should be fine so long as their income is
enough to qualify (which it usually is, car dealerships and their credit
agencies are very aggressive in getting big loans to those with little
income!).

Andy.

I'm not really here - it's just your warped imagination.

Just to clarify, if my partner (who already has a new car with the monthly payments that go along with it) co-signed my car loan, I could feasibly get a loan for a new car? Even with no credit as a new immigrant?
