Texas Toast is a good suggestion but I don't know if it is available everywhere.

Bread is probably just below the lack of Sausage rolls on my list of problems I do have with the USA. Publix do an ok fresh Mountain Bread Loaf sliced where I live, but outside of that I have struggled. We went down the Bread Maker route but it is a hassle if you are not a baker. If you are crazy enough, you can get fresh bread frozen and shipped! There are few online places offering it - saw it while looking for Christmas Chocolates (I am trying to dive into the local culture, but Hershey's is just vomit).

Doesn't anyone even try any of the other chocolates available from US manufacturers or other brands sold here? Dove chocolates, both the milk and dark, are good tasting chocolates. You can't beat Godiva for a wonderful chocolate. In fact, I like Godiva far better than any European chocolate I've had over the years while traveling in Europe. Lintz chocolates are available in any Walgreens store you go to and they are usually also found in those outlet malls. Costco sells great European brand chocolates for Christmas.

Bread is the only food I buy that I look at the ingredients before buying. So long as the sugar is 2g/slice, or less (ideally 1g or less) it won't (IMO) taste sweet.

That said, I am not a huge fan of bread. It is convenient for stopping my lunch making my fingers greasy, and for mopping up the oil in the pan after frying sausage, eggs and mushrooms for breakfast. Otherwise I think bread is overrated.

I love Trader Joe's but hate their bread. Don't like the taste, texture and had issues with it going off before it should. Bread generally is an issue so l tend to buy bagels as a cop out!

It's not hard to buy good bread. Just don't buy it in the "bread" isle, because they don't keep any there.

I go to the bread store to buy bread. A family favorite is sourdough , I prefer the nutty or seeded bread. I hate the so called diet bread, the slices are just half the size. I have noticed some loaves have got shorter.

How can a bread maker be hassle, just get the ingredients, bung them in the bread maker start it up and lo and behold just a couple of hours later you have fresh bread, fully cooked.

Also, when toasted, an excellent substrate for Marmite.

We went through 4 bread makers in 6 months - I think this is just a personal issue. Even that is not a lovely Tiger Loaf, and as much as I love fresh bread, I do have days where I just want a slice of Hovis.

On the chocolate front - I have yet to find any brand, including the Canadian sourced Dairy Milk that is acceptable. It is not a bad thing really. Beer on the other had has been a welcome surprise, and not so good for me.

There's your problem -- wean yourself off that ghastly sweet milk chocolate and try some of the real stuff, like Green & Black's organic 70% pure dark cacao, with flavorings like sea salt, chile, or orange!

Lindt is almost as good, just a little bit cheaper. 90% is for real chocolate eaters.

Yes, I love that really black stuff! They also do a good bar with sea salt.

Morphing the two subjects, you really can't beat a doorstep sawn off a Tesco's instore baked white loaf slathered with Nutella...or (as previously mentioned) Marmite.

We have an Amish grocery store reasonably close (20 miles!) which does nice loaves that aren't lagged with sugar and the Cuban bread baked in Ybor city, Tampa, is to die for but a bit of a haul just for bread.

When I want good bread I order imported and frozen loaves from GermanDeli. The Roggenbrot and Baunerbrot are to die for. With some lovely imported German Wursts and butter, who needs anything else.

German Frozen Breads | GermanDeli.com They are located in Texas

They also import and sell candy.

Have never liked the taste of Nutella. Can't figure out what the hoopla is all about. My German aunt loved Fluff-a-Nutter and always asked us to send it to her in her care packages.
