Yeah, fireworks laws in the US vary hugely from state to state. The laws are weird and contradictory in Ohio - perfectly legal to buy and sell them here. But it's illegal to set them off. When you buy them you have to sign a declaration that you will take them out of state within 48 hours. This is known as the "liar's law" and is not enforced. Not surprisingly, the topic of the odd laws comes up every July, but little effort has been made to make changes.
