You damn yanks would only screw it up :p

A&M University in Texas used to have an annual bonfire. Just like everything in Texas they had to make it bigger and 'better' each year. It grew so immense it collapsed during construction one year and killed 12 people. Very sad.

Aw, I'm so sad reading this. Want to go hooome!

I used to live in the same road as my Uncle and Aunt and they had a huge field behind their house, down the end of our road.

Every year we had a huge bonfire, and fireworks in the field, and would have soup, foil wrapped baked potatoes, all that!

Over here you can't buy fireworks and I don't know any other English people (sad vision of Ruth sitting in back yard lighting a match and drinking soup....lol)

But I am thinking now - and you know what, tomorrow I am going to cook dinner for my husband based on bonfire night food - I'll even burn it a bit to make it authentic.

Maybe I could have a party next year for my American friends? They wouldn't have a clue what was going on but they would think it was 'cute'!!

I'd just like to point out that where I live, fireworks are completely legal all year long and we have a MASSIVE (Really, it's the size of a decent Walmart) fireworks store about 20 miles down the highway from us.

You know, I've got plenty of room for a fire.;) I think it would be a blast.

Yeah, and you'd only fight over the computer, which means no more Mafia Wars.
