So what do you think it is about the British Isles and Ireland which is conducive to producing good musical acts?

Fusion of cultures due to reverse colonialism? The weather? (Remember the Seattle scene - Nirvana, Mudhoneys, Pearl Jam. They were all in their basements jamming because the weather was crappy outside.)
Political turmoil? Class system?
