Since I don't have a clue where you live, obviously in the south if you are talking bbq, why not seafood, i.e. gumbo, deep-fried turkey, etc.
I love New England cooking, yankee pot roast, clambakes, new england clam chowder, corn chowder.
Sampling of the wonderful wines from the New York State Finger Lake region. Try Castel Grich or Fulkerson's. Or the wineries on Long Island.

You're in San Diego? I'm not sure if you would consider it American tucker, but there in San Diego I can't imagine a night on the tiles not ending with a chow-down at Roberto's, Alberto's or one of the other 'bertos in San Diego county. I love their carne asada burritos or machaca tortas.
