Exactly what this lad had in mind for me no doubt. Anyhoo, here is a pic that the wife bravely took of it on top of a beer can for scale. It was much bigger before the ants had a bit and, of course, before it got all curled up after death and a good brooming!!!

Terminex got rid of ours. You have to spray a special powder up and along the corridor it's bored out...which is rather difficult. Then plug the hole with steel wool. It has to be powder so it is still potent when the larvae hatches...liquid would not be. If the larvae are still alive they will simply bore another hole and fly away...to return the following year.
Carpenter ants...that's another problem. We have Terminex to sort ours out but I don't know whether it is possible to every get rid of them completely. |

I couldnt open one of your links. I like cicadas, they make sweet music, but that thing is the mother of all insects. If I see one around here I am on the first plane to the pole.

Re: To bee.....or what?
Looks like JG is right about it being a cicada wasp - don't forget that the Midwest is having the 17 year cyclical cicadas appearing this year so it's feast time for those wasps.

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/...a-Invasion.php Apparently dogs love the tasty little buggers. So if we are still living in this area in 2013...the dogs and me are outta here for the summer. |

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/...a-Invasion.php Truly amazing. I saw a doco on this years ago when I was a kid and have always remembered it. It helped towards me becoming an athiest and getting to grips with the idea of the 'biological imperative'. Now I am amazed that it is about to happen all around me. I will fu/ckin cringe when it happens lol, but I am going to be mailing home and telling everyone. I also saw one about a gang of big crabs in OZ or somehere. Don't fancy that!! :) |
