My boss was a closet Stalinist originally from Eastern Europe. There was not much about America that he liked, although he cravenly tried to fit in by following football & basketball etc. there wasn't anything in the "anti-American" line that I could say that didn't pale beside his anti-Americanism.

That must have been rather refreshing.

Each to their own. When I went vegetarian for years I used to eat Smiths Bacon fries as a substitute. Maybe that's why I like the wonderful American bacon.

Don't get me wrong, British-style back bacon is yummy too and I'll happily est it when back in Blighty, but my default preference is towards American-style, the crispier the better.
No - love it

Add me to the list. I always had to cut ghastly soft fat off UK bacon, whereas it's all crispy and edible here!

British style back bacon is better for just about all bacon related applications but for some weird reason, American bacon (provided it is thick cut) works better on burgers. Maybe it stays on better, I don't know.

That being said, while I can tolerate American bacon for the sake of a quiet life and because eating it for breakfast once a week won't kill me, there is just no substitute for the combination of white pan loaf, thickly spread creamery butter, many rashers of back bacon and an imperial gallon of HP sauce. Combined with a nice strong cup of tea. Milk, no sugar. Bliss.

Edible?

Hang on, we may have a diagnostic tool here for who is going to adapt to the US

It is pork after all. Edible and palatable aren't quite the same.

That being said, I do still think thick cut US style bacon works in a burger if used sparingly.

Good post, although I use tomato ketchup, just personal preference.

Ketchup's OK, I have used it myself when the HP has run out.
