Hi maybe a silly Question, but is finding work in Florida hard ? Just wondering really as we head out in Feb/ March and just wondering what were up against. To start with we will both be pretty happy to do anything whilst we look around and get settled although I think I draw the line at Walmart ! I would consider casual at Disney although not sure OH want to shave beard off after soooo many years

Difficult to answer that without further details about what you want to do to be honest. Plus you can't really class "Florida" in a oner - too diverse.

If you are not picky about where you live, what you do, or what you earn, then chances are you won't have much trouble. Start factoring in these three equations and it obviously gets harder.

Our plan is (as far as plans go) to rent in the Orlando area ish for 6 months whilst we take any job and hunt around for more permenant jobs during that time. i would like to continue nursing although untrained or work as support in a school. I have loads of experience and good references for both, and OH really has no idea. He currently works for house building company but with downturn in housing market in both UK and USA thats not a likely career to continue with just now. I expect we would stay generally that area as daughter is hoping to go to UCF in Gainsville and whislt a couple of hours drive is ok really dont want it to be further than that. But without sounding flighty we will go and do whatever it takes. This is a huge step for us neither of us are usually risk takers but feel this is something we really want to do. Embassy app for OH is this Friday so heres hoping we pass that bit and can start the ball rollin

Look towards Ocala it's quite a prosperous place experiencing a 'boom' with a little b. Property is a good price, they have an excellent curry house:thumbsup: and it's a reasonable journey to Gainesville. Wages all over Florida are poor I would expect a PCA (level 3 nursing auxilliary to get $10-$15 an hour) Nursing is one of the few jobs in demand. Lots of work in Gainesville / Ocala

OK today is another of those interview days. This time its for DialAmerica in New Port Richey, FL. Just off Little Road for those who live near Tampa.

If I get this job, its part-time, working as a cold caller phoning people for Surveys(YUCK) on behalf of the United States Army. So if you get a phone call from someone with an British accent, it could be me. Just be kind OK :D

OK guess I will toddle off and see what the HR lady has to say to me this time. I am certainly not getting my hopes up, or holding my breath. I need a drink LOL :beer:

hope today went well.....

most states it can be a hassle, need to be finger printed with a background check by the state and usually have to be certified, even to sub....so probably look into that a bit more carefully if your thinking of that as an option.

If you're untrained, you're not a nurse. You're an assistant of some description.

Shows what you know then - you become a qualified patient care/nursing assistant after a 12 week course, not a nurse. Or are you an expert in this matter, too?
