I suppose threes an argument to invest it and let it make more money long term, but I'd rather pay down our personal debt.
Nothing personal, but you getting the stimulus money actually represents a failure of policy on a macro level. Since your payment is neither stimulating the economy, nor is it a desperately needed lifeline to pay your basic bills this year. But of course, policymakers know that no one is going to turn down free money, nor can they know who really needs it the most.

Oh I agree, I don't take offence to it, it's a fact.

The only people that are being 'stimulated' by me paying down my mortgage is the holders of the Mortgage Backed-Securities, and they sure as hell don't need it in all likelihood.

Could I find something to go spend the money on? Probably, but it would be something frivolous. I'd rather use it for a purpose.

Sure that's something that could make a difference. I live in a major city though and I will not be staying home on election day. I will risk getting sick to vote against Trump.

"It's a very tight... Do you know how many people are in Seoul? Do you know how big the city of Seoul is?"

He then answered his question: "38 million people. That's bigger than anything we have."

Come to think of it, when I got the $600 stimulus check in 2008, I just put it in my savings, and it didn't affect my spending or anything.

That 2008 stimulus initiative did the trick, didn't it? Smooth sailing from there.

Don't jump to so many conclusions, you "don't understand what the problem is here", well there's no problem here.

He will win the election. He will find a vaccine for that Michelobvirus and save the day!

I'm not sure I understand the thinking behind the "economic impact" checks:
  • It's not really enough money to help people who are truly impacted. They're better served by unemployment insurance anyway.
  • It's by definition a demand stimulus. Demand is not the problem with the current situation.
  • It's being sent to a lot of people who really don't need it.
Targeted personal and business loans make a lot more sense. These checks are a total waste of money.

The Conservative wants the money to go to business. Hold the front page.

Could have a big effect on 'low propensity' voters-- the kind that don't vote unless their local political machine or labor union harangues them several times and drives them to the polls in a van etc...

Gotcha.

I'm not a liberal.

I don't think corporations are inherently bad, I just don't think they are the solution to all ills.

I just watched the Donald Trump sideshow aka press conference. I noticed some of the puppeteers strings were showing. Six more months and the New York District attorney can open it's Trump vs New York State criminal case.

Just read this scary article about Texas being very restrictive on mail-in votes -
https://www.vox.com/2020/4/17/212239...rty-debeauvoir

"The state attorney general is threatening criminal prosecutions against pro-voting activists.'

Surely, if the state supreme court supports this position, can it not be appealed to the US supreme court?

I am not sure one can say a total waste considering the process of applying for unemployment insurance and receiving can take a while- certainly for many the economic impact checks were desperately needed. Sure many received who didn't need it but perhaps necessary to get the approval for the overall package.
