Even in Canada we heard about the Chick-fil-eh scandal, it was in the news but now a dim recollection.. I should set my alarm so I don't miss SNL tonight!

Democrats object to Chick-fil-A voter registration drive

A controversy is clucking in Pinellas County over chicken sandwiches, sweet tea and voter registration cards.

Democrats of Pinellas County are crying foul over Pinellas County
Susan McGrath, leader of the Stonewall Democrats and head of the Pinellas Democratic Party, said the decision to use Chick-fil-A would be similar to a Democratic supervisor of elections holding the event at Planned Parenthood.

McGrath said the group supports the effort to register more voters, But she called the move partisan to hold the event at Chick-fil-A and said it might be more transparent to hold the voter drives at the Republican Party headquarters.

Speaking as a voter in Pinellas County - I have no idea what that is about.

Will there be any time in the future that America enters the rational, 21st century world? Where, for instance, citizens are registered to vote and it's not a partisan issue? You know, like in Australia or UK or Belgium or wherever?

But how does that make you feel?

How does what make me feel; that the U.S. is a dysfunctional basket case where they haven't even figured out how to manage electoral registration?

To be fair the same could be said about many many other areas:

Health
DMV
Immigration

We are lucky with our DMV. Never any lines, and the women who work there are all really sweet. And efficient. But health, definitely.

Media reported many extreme right-wing groups , but usually members of those groups were California transplants. A lot of extreme left-wing characters also live in that area also. I remember local dinner, judge who put felon away in prison, would be sitting there with him having breakfast. an Aryan nations member there, but also an extreme Marxist Ph.D. type from Stanford, and then a pot grower also there, but also the Sheriff. Yet generally people got along, though some heated argument at times. Yea lots of conservative voters no doubt.

My understanding is most of Aryan Nations members moved to Oh and Penn. over the last 10 years.

Here in Midwest though I find much more open racist attitudes expressed, both from whites and blacks. Cities are on the left , countryside on the right.
