Self proclaimed billionaire and awesome businessman buried under debt...
http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/08/21...ww.google.com/
On the campaign trail, Donald J. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has sold himself as a businessman who has made billions of dollars and is beholden to no one.
But an investigation by The New York Times into the financial maze of Mr. Trump’s real estate holdings in the United States reveals that companies he owns have at least $650 million in debt — twice the amount than can be gleaned from public filings he has made as part of his bid for the White House. The Times’s inquiry also found that Mr. Trump’s fortunes depend deeply on a wide array of financial backers, including one he has cited in attacks during his campaign.
For example, an office building on Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan, of which Mr. Trump is part owner, carries a $950 million loan. Among the lenders: the Bank of China, one of the largest banks in a country that Mr. Trump has railed against as an economic foe of the United States, and Goldman Sachs

It’s hard to imagine a much worse pitch Donald Trump could have made for the black vote - Washington Post
"No group in America has been more harmed by Hillary Clinton's policies than African Americans," he said, apparently pointing to individuals in the crowd. "No group. No group. If Hillary Clinton's goal was to inflict pain to the African American community, she could not have done a better job. It is a disgrace."
"Look at how much African American communities are suffering from Democratic control. To those I say the following: What do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump? What do you have to lose?" he asked. "You live in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?"
Consider: Black Americans are not "living in poverty" as a general rule. A quarter of the black population is, according to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, about the same as the percentage of Hispanics. In Michigan, the figure is slightly higher. Most black Americans don't live in poverty, just as most white Americans don't.
Democrats win the support of black voters consistently because those voters like the work that they do and like the fights that they fight.

And did you catch this little gem the other day? Sounds like the old boys club -- just the kind of thing that Trump reviles, or rather gives lip service to reviling -- in action.

From Naked Donald Trump statues pop up in several cities | TheHill
The statue in New York City's Union Square was removed by early afternoon. In a statement to Gothamist, a Parks Department spokesperson said of the statue: “NYC Parks stands firmly against any unpermitted erection in city parks, no matter how small.â€

Being Donald Trump Means Never Having To Say You’re Sorry
Here’s a riddle: If you don’t say what you’re apologizing for, is it actually an apology?
Here’s a riddle: If you don’t say what you’re apologizing for, is it actually an apology?
The GOP nominee is a master of suggestion and apophasis, of saying things while claiming not to say them. When making an outrageous or patently false statement, Trump is usually careful to grant himself some distance from his own remarks, often by way of murky attribution. After all, one of his favorite phrases is “a lot of people are saying…â€
By not specifying what he is sorry for, Trump apologizes for everything and nothing at the same time. The candidate has insulted so many people since launching his campaign last year that it’s impossible to say who he has in mind when he speaks of regret. Think of it this way: Given its vagueness, who among the offended could claim Trump’s apology as their own?

So no rationale.
So here's mine. The choice this year really is not worse than 2004 and 1972. 2004 saw Bush, a President who had already blown away the world's goodwill post 9/11 versus Kerry, a candidate so ineffectual you really had to wonder what he stood for. 1972 saw a crook deeply lying about Vietnam versus McGovern, who a lot of his own party didn't support and whose first VP pick had to withdraw when his mental illnesses became known. Nixon won with over 60% of the popular vote.

Just for those who may not yet have seen it. The excellent Fareed Zakaria documentary "why they hate us" is being rebroadcast on CNN tonight at 20:00 BST and 21:00 CET.
This is a very worthwhile hour about Islamic extremism, regardless of your stripes.

It's time we in the west left that part of the world for good. We don't need their oil anymore. Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela combined have enough oil to supply a market that is gradually moving on to other sources of energy.
They're all nuts in Syria, Iraq, Turkey and Iran. Let Putin mire himself down in their crazy world if he wants to and a pox on the lot of them

If you want to pass an hour and don't want something super serious and a bit on the whimsical side, How to Win the US Presidency on Netflix was fun, not a serious documentary and just skirts the topics like money, looks, and others but goes back to presidents of long ago, not just recent.
Easy way to pass time.

Trump + Ailes + Bannon = Unholy Alliance!
Hardly augers well for Democracy (and that's an understatement)
An excellent piece in Politico this morning examines what’s so worrying.
It posits the following:
"...... his efforts to de-legitimize the very institutions that under-gird American democracy — the media and the electoral process itself — threaten........the stability of the country’s political system... the damage to our democracy could be substantial. Among the values most necessary for a functioning democracy is the peaceful transition of power that’s gone on uninterrupted since 1797.â€
What if Trump won't accept defeat? - POLITICO
This reflects what I’d already begun to fear back in March - when I posted saying:
“The only thing to be feared as much as a Trump win - is a Trump loss!
Hell hate no fury like a Donald scorned.
If defeated, Donald J. Trump will never “go gently into that good nightâ€â€¦.
Were he not to win in November …..I foresee a no-holds-barred, take-no-prisoners, scorched-earth denouement.
I can imagine him digging in, refusing to concede and continuing on his warpath to winner-dom:
Fortified by humiliation and fury, buttressed by the massive army of supporters in his thrall, (**** see below)…..if Donald J. Trump goes down - he takes all of us with him.
Screw the United States."
(**** now aided and abetted by Roger Ailes and Steve Bannon)

Today's WaPo fleshes out spectre of a projected TAB Network (Trump/Ailes/Bannon)
Wake up to co-hosts Ann Coulter
and Chris Christie

Daybreak brakes with a conspiracy or 3
Guaranteed to add a jolt to the morning brew and
Beddybyes with Rudy Giuliani packin' heat on a law and (dis)order show.
Guaranteed to fuel your dreams.
Ratings rockets one and all
