I do love the Japanese, but you have to wonder what they put in the water over there.

40 million is an awful lot to have in cash. When reporting people's net worth they mean all their assets, not just cash. If Warren Buffett is worth 50 billion, it's not in cash. It's a total of all his assets.

Re: 2016 Election
1. It's not enough to fund a nation presidential campaign.
2. He's unwilling to spend any of it on the campaign.
Trump is a wannabeeeee rich guy. He's not a Buffet, Gates, nor Koch. He's been lying from the beginning about everything. He's not self funding, he doesn't even want to. Even if he really really really wanted to self fund, HE DOESN'T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY.
And Buffett is worth a lot more than 50 billion.

Yes it is a large sum of money. However ...

Trumps wealth is in his real estate holdings (Buffet's wealth is in his stocks and company holdings). If Trump wanted to self fund he'd have to sell a building or two. He doesn't want to do that. He's operating on the cheap (which is atypical for the wealthy) they hate spending their own money.
To make a long story short...Trump acts like he has money (I mean wealth). Trump is the Anti-Candidate.

How Donald Trump's Debt Addiction Crushed Biggest Company He Ever Ran - Fortune
Debt, debt and more debt, it's how he runs his businesses. He probably can't afford to sell a building even if he had to.

Leslie, when one is dealing with large sums of money, that money doesn't sit in a bank collecting dust. Money has to be put to work or it loses value. Warren Buffett, may be worth 100 billion for all I know but virtually none of it is going to be in cash. I'd be surprised if he even has a million in cash. The super wealthy do not operate that way.

Don't be ridiculous, rich people use their own money in politics all of the time. Have you never heard of Koch, Soros, or Adelson? Trump ran on exactly that narrative, "I'm a rich guy. I'm self funding. I'm beholden to none. I'll be fixing the system from the inside." Do you remember?
You're twisting yourself in knots to defend your nominee and that's okay. There's no law against voting against your own interests.
It's not a class thingy. Sigh. He's a huckster and America is his potential customer. He's not wealthy enough to self fund. He's having trouble raising money because the 'money' people can't hold their noses quite tight enough yet. Perhaps you'll get lucky and they'll go ahead and cut their noses off completely. Otherwise, you better get ready to max out your credit cards because Trump is going to need somebody to pay for this mess he's made.

I see you didn't read the link that's OK. To summarize, there is leveraging your assets and there is driving them into bankruptcy several times.
