2016 Election

Re: 2016 Election
I was otherwise engaged, and not in the fun way.
I'm seeing bits of the debate this morning and it looks like a blood bath. Based on what some of the posters here are saying, Trump is pivoting to the center on some issues. Not a surprising move now that he's pretty much won this primary. I want to remind everybody that he got this far by scapegoating Mexicans, Muslims, African Americans, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, et al. He has stoked the worst aspect of the American psyche - racism. He's pretty much been endorsed by the KKK and Aryan Brotherhood. IMO he does not get a walk now just because he won't 'let people die in the streets'. He's a sick and dangerous malignancy and needs to be amputated from the American public narrative.

I don't like or respect the guy one bit; my sole desire is to see a Democrat in the White House, and in this context, my approach is, 'an enemy of my enemy is a friend'. I think his presence in the Republican race is helping the Democratic cause, despite his caustic rhetoric. Although, I would have to say (and I think you said it too), I'd rather have Trump than Cruz. But beyond that, I want whoever is most likely to lose to Hillary. Whether that is Rubio or Trump I can't honestly say. I think Rubio's lack of experience would mean he would be trounced by Hillary, and I fear that Trump could be a formidable opponent, simply due to his utter disregard for any standards of behavior.

That may be a statement of fact, but - consider Trump's state of mind if he gets to the convention with a big margin of votes but not the required number to guarantee nomination; if he is 'dispossessed' at that point, his ego is likely to be inflamed, and he could go down the independent route as a way to keep the momentum and keep his ego stoked - another several months of cheering crowds and wall-to-wall TV coverage ... regardless of the likely outcome. No one ever accused him of being reasonable in this process.

I am really surprised to see so many socialist expats and the comments made here on the forum. I would have thought those of you that support Bernie and the likes would have stayed in Europe and not moved over to the good ol US of A the land of the free.

And I would say that he has done a great job of running for Republican nominee. But it's those same attributes that make him a losing presidential candidate; unfortunately for him, most voters aren't like GOP primary voters. Candidates don't usually run this way because it ultimately results in defeat when it counts, i.e. on the first Tuesday in November.
