Registering Independent sounds a bit like being an Atheist in a religious context
What would an Agnostic be?

Hey, we're all Independents here, although almost all of us will religiously (or agnostically or atheistically) vote against any and all Republicans because they're all crazed racists, homophobes, Islamophobes, bible-thumping, knuckle-dragging, bitter, gun-clinging, woman-hating, terroristic trogolodytes. But, we're still Independents...or independent-thinking anyway...and one day we just might vote for a Republican. One day. For the right Republican. One day.

I am decided and in answering this I am showing I am willing to participate.

Indeed. Whatever happened to them? It used to be that in the south the Republicans were the respectable, non-racist party. Well, less racist anyway.

And rather than admit to why the Republicans are losing their coalition, some resort to hysteria and bully/victim silliness.

If the Republicans could ditch the right-wing loons and offer some species of social program this country might get some actual choices for government. I'm geeting tired of voting for "anything but the republicans". It isn't very democratic.

I doubt the Roman general and statesman went on like that.

We can do it, yes we can.

There are plenty of moderates in the GOP. Both McCain and Romney were moderates until they had to pull themselves farther to the right than suited them in order to appease the right wing base. Honestly, I think it would be better off for everyone if the tea party element (is that still even an organisation?) split from the GOP and formed their own party, then we'd be left with actual moderate conservatives in the party who don't have to prostitute themselves to a far right element. Something more in line with the Tories in that respect.
