I am starting to think that the thread title may be a non sequitur, but thought I might pick the brains of the member of the same name as the area I now find myself residing in...

So, I am now safely ensconced in the expat bolt hole that is Nichada Thani and, of an evening, would like to leave this bubble of expat life and venture out into the real world..

Any decent watering holes, either stand alone or hotel-based, where one can quaff a sun downer of an evening, without doing the BTS Asoke to Mo Chit run, followed by the taxi ride home?

Yeah , I know what you mean . Nonthaburi and nightlife don't exactly go hand in hand . A lot of the things people get up to here seem to be at local places that aren't really that special . There are a few good spots though . I don't know your age or what you're into though so . ......or where you live . Nonthaburi is a big area .

I live in Bang Bua Thong so I tend to go out on the Thonburi side of the river .

You could try Holland Beer Garden on Ratchapruek Road . They've got good beer at reasonable prices and you can sit outside or there is the live band inside .

For a meal try Tamachat or Dairy Queen restaurant which are just over the river ( Western side ) if you cross the river on Rattana Thibet Road . You can see the big signs as you cross the bridge .

There are quite a few pubs on Ratchapruek as you go down to the roundabout with the Nahkon Inn road and also from that roundabout going towards Rama 5 bridge .

I'm not so good on the Eastern side but if you were going down Prachacheun away from the Mall Ngam Wong Wan towards the top of Ratchadapisek there is a left turn at a traffic lights and there are quit a few nice bars there too .

Apart from that there are numerous Karaoke joints if that's your thing but I'm sure you can spot them .

There's not really that much to do here but there are loads of Thai orientated bar pubs around . The thing is that you wouldn't really notice them in the daytime so it might just be worth having a drive around at night to see what is out there .

Holland beer garden is worth a look though purely for great beer if you get sick of Thai stuff . 100 baht for half a litre so not bad when compared to BKK prices too !
