I was planning on arriving in Melbourne in search of a teaching job (probably through a temping agency) for the next academic year in mid November, but would ideally like to arrive mid Jan. I am an experienced English and Drama teacher and have a one year visa. Can anyone offer any advice on when would be a good tome to arrive in search of work for the end of Jan (the new school year)?

If I were you I'd be contacting agencies to see if you can go directly into teaching in Vic, as i think they have a requirement for overseas teachers to undertake and orientation course prior to being able to apply for a post! Mid Jan would give you as much chance of getting temp work as any other time! Just check out restrictions on your visa when taking on work.
