Question Science teaching in Brisbane

Hi
My hubby is a newly qualified secondary science teacher (Chemistry degree + PGCE)
We've been told that science teachers are in demand in QLD, but the vacancy sites would suggest otherwise....
Anyone out there able to tell us what the situation is for science - particularly in Brisbane?
Cheers
Caroline

Have you read up yet on rural and remote service required by state school teachers, the newly qualified are usually expected to rack up a few years rural or remote service before earning enough brownie points to apply for a job where everyone wants the positions, brisbane or coastal areas.

Other states do this as well, its to ensure huge states can get teachers in the disadvantaged and very remote areas nobody would take jobs in otherwise.

Also check up to see if your OH has the right mix of degree level science - Most states require you to have completed a certain level of other sciences too - Biology or Physics in this case. It catches a lot of people out, and you may have to do an extra year or module of degree level biology or physics.

Have you applied for your visa yet? Have you gone on a skilled one based on his teaching? Just be careful that he doesn't need at least 3 years experience.

My employer is sponsoring me for PR. We have a 457 visa. So hubby will have very little in the way of teaching experience and has not even completed QTS year here. Would be nice if he could find employment tho' cos we've had to sacrifice quite a lot for his retraining! :scared:
