Hello all!

Some useful info on this thread - thanks!

Sniffydog - where did you get your initial info about sponsorship from Victoria (if you don't mind sharing)? I've been all over their site but can't find anything, though I'm probably just being stupid and there is a massive link that says 'We will sponsor you, Lou' surrounded by flashing red lights!

The reality is though that even whe you take all of this into account, they are short of teachers in the rural or regional areas. Schools are expanding and teachers are moving or retiring so jobs are always out there for those that want them.

What Teachers are being sponsored in Vic? Is it all encompassing or just pre-primary and limited subjects in Secondary?

You would need to check out the skills in demand page:
http://www.liveinvictoria.vic.gov.au...1&contentId=-1
All teachers are apparently in shortage across Victoria so subjects are not important at this stage. Where we are anyone that wanted a job after completing the course last year has got a job so jobs are out there.
Good luck.

Anyone know the answer to this....
If I have a job offer from a school can I still go on a 457 and be 'allocated' to that school?

Is the school a government school in Victoria? If so then as they employ their staff directly then as long as the school is in the required area then there should be no problem with them employing you with the depatment sponsoring the 457. If it is a Catholic or private school then your sponsor would be either the school themselves or the catholic education authority. I would pass the question back to the school making the offer as they will be able to organise all of that given that they should know that you don't have a visa in place already.
Good luck.
Nicky
