Teach in Tasmania?
#1
Hi,
I'm from the UK but currently live in Qld and have just graduated with a postgrad primary teaching qualification here in Brisbane. My OH and his extended family have all decided that over the next few years we're going to start making the move to Tassie (for various reasons).
I'm finding it really hard to find information on the current teaching demand in the state though, and whether I'm likely to find work at all. My husband and I are willing to move anywhere in Tas if that means I'm able to gain permanent employment (he works from home), or even stay in Hobart or Launceston and do supply/contracts.
I've had a search through the forums here and can't find any solid answers on this. If anyone has any idea how the current situation for primary teachers is looking (particularly those trained outwith Tassie) I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks

I've also looked into teaching in Tasmania and it appears that there is not much demand for teachers. If you go to http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/aussi...employment.htm
They have links to all sites in Australia, including Tasmania - includes links to the government portal, which someone has already provided, as well as info on where to find jobs in the Catholic sector.
They certainly don't rush things - I applied for a community education/library post (part-time, only 10 hours a fortnight) in early December 2007. I was told they were desperate to fill the post as the previous staff had already left. By January I'd not heard anything so I made contact, to be told the panel had not even met to make selection. Finally, at the end of January I was interviewed by 3 senior staff and was THEN told it would take some time for them to reach a decision, after which a report would be drawn up and forwarded to their superiors (which would take 2 weeks) and it would be a further 2 weeks or more after that before they would contact me to let me know if I'd been successful or not
.
Needless to say I found other employment. I realised this week that I STILL have not heard from them!
