Teaching salaries - Oz
Has anybody any info on teaching salaries in Oz? Are teachers from the UK moving to Oz able to use their UK experience to enter at a comparable level in Australia?
Thanks for any replies,

Re: Teaching salaries - Oz
You can use your experience to get salary points.
However for WA we had to supply a bullet point reference for every employer to show full time, pay scale etc, start and end date of employment. Payroll needed this or you went on newly qualified pay
We needed only 7 years worth of reference to get to the top of automatic pay scale (Level 3 requires courses here).
For WA salary is roughly $45-69, any further and you need to be senior teacher and level 3 that require you to do courses etc.

I've had a good look at the pay details but I can't seeem to see an easily defined outline of how much the increments are at each stage.
There is a simple one on the website for 2006, but must be out of date as it starts at a much lower pay than that the DET advertise as the starting salary.
Say someone with 3 years experience in teaching... would they be level 1.3? or are the lower levels for Oz NQTs/Graduate teachers?
Edit - Think I've figured it out - we start on 1.6?

hiya
We were told from DET that you start on 1.6.
for every year you teach it goes up an increment.

Just to add re WA salaries:
Yes, if you provide proof then your years of service are counted
BUT
each year must have been worked in 1 school. For example, 1 year I worked full time, 2 terms in 1 school and 1 term in another. They do not accept this as a year of service. IT MUST BE IN THE SAME SCHOOL.
This kind of screws people who may have spent their whole career working in two different schools etc. so just be aware
Gemma
ps WA salaries may change depending on a union vote finishing on Sept 12th
