Teaching Salaries?

Trying to work out where to go I noticed that VIctoria has struck a new pay deal for its teachers to make them higher paid.

Can anyone help me find out how much I should expect to get paid (roughly) and whether my 2 years of teaching experience would be taken into account?

Primary classroom or primary music (depending on who will employ me!!)

Thanks, I had looked at these.

Would I need to go in as a graduate scheme do you think? I would be in my third year of teaching and have a 4yr hons degree

I wonder when they'll publish the new scales, its difficult to know how much they'll go up by.

That's great, thank you for this.

Have you seen this? http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...-29277,00.html

Trying to work out its impact, might mean less jobs by the time I get down under!

Already hard to find a permanent job anyway, don't need any more hurdles putting up

Yeah I was beginning to think that all these jobs listed on the government website were ones that were temp contracts or ones that already had people allocated to them.

Are you in the same situation?

My Aunt is a Primary Teacher in Vic, already had the talk on how tough it is getting any perm contract and how most likely will take a long time to find something

My SIL is a teacher in Vic as well - and tells the same old story, but on the plus side, schools are more likely to offer contracts (and you could be lucky with permanency) to young teachers because they cost them less in the long run than the old chooks who have been doing it for 20 years! Also play up any special ed experience qualifications you may have had.

I have a qualification in teaching deaf children music (yeah I know!) and am a music specialist as well as primary teacher here so it may make me more employable.
Funny you should say that about newer teachers quoll as its how I got my permanent contract here, rocked up to the interview and dropped in that I was the cheapest candidate! :p

Thanks for this info.

Do you know if I would be classed as a graduate teacher? How much experience do you need to go in at mainscale?

Graduate teacher = a min 4 year university education such as degree and teacher training (eg Bachelor Degree and Diploma of Education) or degree and diploma combined (eg B Ed) at an institution and including subjects suitable to the registration authority.

So where, as a matter of interest, on that payscale would a Primary School Teacher with 9 years experience find themselves?
