State Sponsorship
Hi everyone,
Just have a question that I was hoping someone here would be able to help me with. I do not meet points requirement for a skilled visa (as I don't have 3 years work experience in teaching yet) unless I get state sponsorship, but how likely am I to actually get this?? Is there a website for each state that says which professions they need, or is it all done on a case by case basis?
Thanks very much,
Frank.

Re: State Sponsorship
I teach science (specialising in physics). Actually am doing a PGCE this year but would hope to be able to go not more than 1-2 years afterwards.
I would like to live in Sydney as I know some people there, if not then Melbourne. I might consider living somewhere else to begin with if it was not for too long.

Physics and Science is a shortage subject. Especially in WA.
WA will sponsor you on a 457 visa and then will do your Permanent visa after 2 years work for them. After you have PR you can then move any place you like.
They also take teachers who are newly qualified, but its secondary teachers only. I know of one teacher who came a few weeks after completing a PGCE.
Shortage in the city as well as rural for science so you may be in better position for getting close to Perth.
I know Victoria does permanent sponorship for secondary teachers, but not the details. Not sure about Sydney areas.

Re: State Sponsorship
Thanks... so if I get a 457 visa in WA does that mean they assign me to a school? Or does it just mean that I go there on the condition that I find work as secondary science teacher?
And do you know what organisation I need to contact in Victoria and NSW to find out exactly what the situations are there?

In WA they assign you to a school and you get no say in it, you don't need much experience though.
Victoria sponser physics teachers and general science teachers for permanant residency on a STNI visa (I think it's now subclass 176). The main www.immi.gov.au website gives lists of professions and how to get started (basically by getting a skills assessment and approval from the victorian institute of teaching)
