I got an email from DET WA saying that I had to get my quals assessed and register with WACOT. So I go to WACOT website, download the form and it says that unless I have a visa or the right to work in Oz then I can't register!!!
How on earth can I get an interview and visa if they won't let me register????
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Going for a big glass of wine now...I deserve it after all this form searching!!!

Nah, you don't need to register until you get a job.
Email WACOT and ask for the qualifications assessment form.
You email that back to them, with scans of your uni transcripts and they say yes or no.
its just a provisional idea of whether you're suitable to teach, to avoid people applying whose qualifications would then be refused.
If you're successful at interview, then you can register.

Me too Lou...just waiting to hear from my Uni. Got sent on a wild goose chase because my Uni has since merged and changed name etc. They don't have my transcripts but the nice man is gonna send me a letter explaining why and detailing my course the best he can. Hope they accept it, think I read on here that they will.

It seems the Preliminary Assessment process has changed of late. I had to send mine to WACOT, but a colleague has received a form without the WACOT insignia requesting all paperwork are emailed to DET for assessment. The new form apparently comes from TeachingWA at [email protected]. When you contacted DET did you tell them that you were interested in 457 sponsorship? If you dont you get a blanket email telling you how to become a teacher in WA. But almost at the bottom is a sentence about the information being accurate if you have a visa with work rights in Australia, and if you don't and are interested in Visa 457 sponsorship, to get back to them. It is only when you enquire about Visa 457 that you get through to the specific section that deals with it. When they reply to you, they send you the correct assessment form, along with other instructions. This is what happened to me a few months ago, and it all led to the interview in London. Still waiting to hear by the way - have now been requested to provide a further referee as one won't reply!
