Default OMG I can't teach....

So I haven't officially sent everything but looked at teh form and thought 'I will ring'...the official line is because I changed subject from Art History to English in year 2 (doing 2 and 3 in English) I 'haven't go the competency or level to teach English'....'haven't got enough experience' (although they sadi post the stuff anyway and they will look but they said it wasn't likely)...

I am so pissed off....

What other jobs can I do with no experience? What are my skills???? I am stuck in Aus not being able to do a job I have always done.....I can write....but I wanted school holidays and school pay....

Any idea or anyone in thsi situation ...(I seem to recall swervo being in this position!)

NSW Institute of teachers......

I spoke to the NSW IT....and Uni of Sydney for prices....

I will send the rest of my stuff and have a 4 day wait (which is really good...) and then they can tell me what I need to do...which is good because 'if' I DO need to do more modules I have to register by 30th June for next semester at the Uni of Sydney!!!!

Look up open universities, they do distance learning teaching modules/course.

I've had friends who have done units through Charles Sturt and have been reasonably happy http://www.csu.edu.au/

This happened to me Plantpot - I was declined registration because my PGCE was delivered at a FE college as opposed to a University, despite being ultimately certified by a uni.

I notice that you can write - this is a good start - did a short course in Technical Writing with a mob based in Canada. It was all online, and finished up in about 12 weeks. I was here for three weeks before I was offered my first job, and am now earning far more than I could have ever hoped to do achieve in education.

Failing that, have a look at some of the short courses that TAFE offers in Bid Writing. There are stacks of jobs in this field, even now during the recession. There is also plenty of contracting work, so opportunities to work from home, or the mountans or the beach or wherever.

Believe me, if you can write, then there are opportunities out there that don't involve $k in retraining expenses.

Hi S

I have worked as a Policy Manager in Mental Health Legislation and Policy Development for the past 8 years - the tasks listed under ASCO 1291-11 provide a fairly accurate job description – and I will be moving to rural WA in Jan 2010. I think the opportunity to remain in this line of work in rural WA will be remote (no pun intended).

So, I got quite excited when I read your post – sad I know. Working as a Technical Writer would appear to be an ideal vehicle for utilising my experience whilst earning a living. Initially, it would good to work within my comfort zone and focus on mental health/health topics before taking on other projects. Here come the questions.

Is there a call for Technical Writers in mental health/health topic areas?

Is there an employment agency in Australia specialising in this type of work?

Thanks
H2Oz

I was in EXACTLY the same position as you. And have now got a job working in a private school (anglican)..... they will help me to achieve my registration as the rules for the Institute of teachers is a bit different to the state things.

PM me if you want more info....
