Default is it advisable to study for my PGCE in the UK

Hi all,

I had plans to study for my PGCE (UK) next year. However, I have recently been granted permanent residency (USA) through relatives.

Now I am not sure if I should continue to study for it here in the UK or find an eqivilent USA qualification??

Does anyone know If the PGCE is a valid teaching qualification in Florida and New York and Atlanta?

Does anyone know of the eqivilent qualifications?

Can anyone offer some advice??

I'm not sure if my answer will help you, but here goes.

I have a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education fromthe US. On applying for teaching jobs back in Britain I just had to have my transcripts looked over and verified by the Teaching Council in Scotland, and they were sufficient to equal a PGCE (if I remember correctly). I was offered a teaching job in Scotland due to my degree etc.

Not sure if the US will verify that a PGCE is equal to a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Eduction, though. I would get in touch with the area you might possibly want to teach in in the US and then ask the question of that teaching authority how to verify teaching qualifications from the UK. However, I have heard that UK trained teachers have come to the US and taught (don't know much about this, though).

Good luck in your teaching adventure.

From what I have heared you can use a PGCE in the US but you need to have studied for at least 4 years on your degree and PGCE.

It might be better to do teacher training in the USA though. The curriculums are very different, so it might give you a disadvantage there being English trained.

It is different in every state; therefore, I would definitely get in touch with the local teaching authority in the area the OP wants to teach in
