The officially recorded temperature in Las Palmas today at 6pm was 28 degrees. The all time temperature record is 39c. |

yesterday afternoon it was 35 in our kitchen and the BH complained because i made salad for dinner
well, round here the Spanish have now taken their coats off. can't be too warm, still wearing woolie pully over a thick lumberjack shirt it will have to get alot hotter for them to take off the wooly in Granada no matter what the temp the "professionals" will never take their tie off, nor roll up their shirtsleeves |

Two British tourists die in Gran Canaria due to intense heat Posted by Canaries News on May 14th, 2012 Two British tourists died yesterday (Sunday 13th May 2012) on the island of Gran Canaria in two separate incidents related to the intense heat the Canary Islands have been experiencing. Two others have been admitted to hospital with heat stroke and an additional four people have also needed medical attention. The first event took place in the area of Barranquillo de Andres in Mogan. At 12.48 hours, the 112 emnergency services were alerted that a group of British hikers between 61 and 78 years suffered from health problems related to the extreme temperatures. When medical personnel arrived on the scene most elderly of the hikers, a woman aged 78, had experienced a cardiac arrest. After a period of attempting resuscitation she was pronounced dead. One of her colleagues, who suffered a heat stroke was a 66 year old woman who was later taken by helicopter and admitted to the Hospital de Gran Canaria Dr. Negrin where she was admitted in critical condition. A helicopter was also used to transport a third 65 year old hiker who had respiratory failure and was admitted to the same hospital in a critical condition. The other hikers, four British tourists between 61 and 69, were attended to by medical personnel at the scene. Shortly afterwards, at around 15.00 the emergency services received a call from a hiker who said that his companion had fallen down the Barranco de Azuaje, also o nthe island of Gran Canaria. They were two related British tourists, who had taken a route through this ravine where they planned to stay overnight in the Fontanales area. The emergency services informed the Moya local police that they had difficulty finding the people because they had not properly informed of their location. Finally, the rescue helicopter which had arrived from Tenerife spotted them and was able to rescue the hiker. .We are having a HEATWAVE here 40* which is 105F and its getting hotter.. in the UK you close the door to keep the heat in ..over here we close the door to keep the Heat out.... |

It never ceased to amaze me how these one foot in the grave retired old fogies would arrive in the Canaries, take on a new lease of life and proceed to go clambering up mountains sometimes in the mid-day Spanish heat.
I saw enough of it while I was there and even rescued one old girl and her mutt, who got stranded up on a mountainside ledge with darkness fast closing in one night. On two other occasions the fire brigade had been called for, though they never got up the mountain yet and I recall one old dear who had bravely completed a really strenuous walk in the mid-day heat, promptly collapsed and fell backwards into a huge patch of evil looking cacti. She was a hospital case of course and I heard it said they were still extracting cactus needles from her rear end weeks later I must add that I was quite a bit younger and a fair bit fitter myself back then. No way would I even dream of it now. |

Who in their right mind would exert themselves to that point, when any heatwave can be ridden out by being a bit smart, or a least my not being a total f**king nutter. just wait until its blowing a blizzard in the UK then some eejuts will get out their trainers and a raincoat and decide to do all the hills above 2000ft in a single day on their pushbike.
is it small wonder that our great armed forces (UK & Spain) have to spend so much money on training and equipment to pull these people out the the jam they get themselves into irrespective of country. hit them with the £1000+ per hour true cost of a helicopter and see the pips squeek |

Surely you don't believe those things - they usually over-read by a large amount - they often get the time right though!

Official temps or real life temps, in your own space. I don't get this go to the airport, take the temp in the shade, then go out into the hot sun with your coat on miles away;) |
